Our story
Why ODU exists
Every week, another headline: Company X lays off 2,000 workers as AI takes over back-office operations. The companies get leaner. The workers get severance packages and job boards. The efficiency gains go to shareholders.
That's not a conspiracy — it's just how the numbers work. AI is genuinely more efficient. Companies that don't adopt it fall behind. The economic logic is sound. The social outcome is not.
We looked at what happened with climate change. For decades, the externalities of industrial growth were someone else's problem. Then a new ethical standard emerged — not from government mandate, but from social pressure, from visible consequences, and from companies deciding they wanted to be on the right side of history.
Carbon neutral started as fringe activism. Now it's a line item in every major company's annual report. The shift didn't happen because it was legally required. It happened because the standard existed and people demanded it.
That's what ODU is. A named standard. A mechanism. A badge you earn.
The mechanism — a company announcing an AI transition on the ODU Platform, accepting an independently calculated Displacement Compensation, and paying it monthly to the workers it displaced — is not charity. It's a framework that works for both sides. Companies retain the efficiency gain and earn a verified public record of ethical conduct. Workers receive ongoing income and access to retraining support for as long as the Accord is honoured.
We think this is the beginning of something. Like organics on food labels. Like "net-zero by 2030" in corporate presentations. The displacement footprint of AI adoption will become a number that companies are expected to publish, manage, and offset.
ODU is the standard. This is the platform.
